Good Books

I love books, book suggestions, and lists... so this is my kind of post! Today I'd like to share some of our favorite books that we've discovered in the first seven weeks of homeschooling:

1.  "Do Unto Otters"
       By: Laurie Keller
A funny, engaging book about manners (and my favorite: The Golden Rule). Great for all children but especially those who need practice with pragmatics and social skills.  This is one of the few books on manners in which negative manners/behaviors are not also detailed.  We like to call those kind of books (like "No, David!") "Will's Bad Idea Reference Books".

2.  "No Dragons for Tea"
       By: Jean Pendziwol
A cute rhyming story about fire safety.  Again, this book is also a little funny, which always helps keep Will engaged.

3. "Fireboy to the Rescue"
     By: Edward Miller
Another fire safety/prevention book that we loved, but this one is in a comic book style.  This book really kept Will's attention.  I found him re-reading this in his spare time, which is always a sign of a good book!

4. "You Can't Taste a Pickle with your Ear".      By: Harriet Ziefert
Catchy, rhyming, and (again) silly book about the body's five senses.

5.  "Cold, Colder, Coldest"
6.  "Hot, Hotter, Hottest"
7.  "Deep, Deeper, Deepest"
8.  "High, Higher, Highest"
     All by: Michael Dahl
This is a great series of books that discuss animals who live in different temperatures and varying heights and depths.  Great for teaching life science and math, all four of these books are full of helpful visuals and animal facts, perfect for non-fiction book lovers like my boy.
